13th Annual American Indian/Alaska Native Education Summit

The annual American Indian/Alaska Native Education Summit, is hosted annually in partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno’s Cultural Diversity Center, Truckee Meadows Community College, and the Nevada Indian Commission. Planning for the event began in 2007 and continues to bring educators from across the state to discuss the state of Indian Education in Nevada. During the Education Summit, the Pesa Namanedu Award is presented to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to Indian education in Nevada.

What to Expect

The Nevada Department of Education's 2020 Annual American Indian Education Summit will take place on March 16-17 2020 in Reno, Nevada, at the Joe Crowley Student Union. This convening is a wonderful professional development and networking opportunity for state leaders, school and district leaders, administrators, educators, tribal communities, families, and students to come together to improve student success for the American Indian subpopulation.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The only age requirement is for the Youth Summit. Youth have to be in the 9th grade - 12th grade. We will check student IDs upon registration.

What's the refund policy?

To receive a refund, cancellations must take place in ten working days prior to the first day of the event date, March 2, 2020. Exceptions may be made for emergency situations only up to the event start date. Those exceptions are defined as illness, accident, etc. Exceptions are at the discretion of the Nevada Department of Education. In the event of an emergency situation, please contact the event coordinators. For additional information please contact Tess Peterson at tess@nphf.org or call at 775-884-0392.

Additional Summit Information:
  • Coffee will be served in the morning, during the late afternoon snack and break only.
  • Please plan to bring a reusable water bottle - water dispensers are located near water fountains.
  • Small snacks will be provided during the mid-morning and late afternoon breaks on both days.
  • Plan to dress in layers. Unfortunately, we do not have control over the thermostat.
