Larry Weiss, PhD

For more than 30 years, Dr. Lawrence J. Weiss has assessed, identified, and developed high quality, cost effective public and private health and human services delivery systems for elders. He has served roles that encompassed health and aging services administration, research and management, program planning and development, and process evaluation. Dr. Weiss was an Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Nevada School of Medicine and Associate, School of Public Health. He served as the Director of the Sanford Center for Aging at the University of Nevada, Reno for 12 years.

Dr. Weiss also served as Principal Investigator for many projects, including the Medication Therapy Management program, NV Care Connection, Washoe County RSVP. His current responsibilities include the design, development, implementation of geriatric and gerontology programming, research, and community education and service programs at the Center for Healthy Aging (CHA). The mission of the CHA is to develop innovative, effective, and efficient programs through research, education, and services designed to improve the quality of life and to promote easy access to these programs.

He is a Founder, Past President, and member of the SAFE Board of Directors. Dr. Weiss is a member of the NV Public Health Foundation Board of Directors and Past President. He is a member of the National Council on Aging Leadership Council, former member of the Board of Directors, and Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. In addition, he is a member, Circle of Life Hospice Foundation Board and member of the steering committee, Native American suicide prevention program, and delegate to the White House Conference on Aging.

Dr. Weiss received his B.A. degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Health Psychology at the University of California, San Francisco.
